About Us

Laurie Roades, PhD

I grew up in St. Louis, so you could say that being a lifelong Cardinals baseball fan is in my DNA. As the oldest of four, I had the privilege of growing up in a household full of love, lessons, and plenty of life’s curveballs. A clinical psychologist by training, I am a former university professor and dean who left a satisfying career to build a new one because there was an important purpose that I wanted to fulfill in the second half of my life. I co-founded the R&J Leadership Group, LLC and co-authored Wise Women Seeking More: Igniting Passion and Purpose in the Second Half of Life. Now, I speak, conduct workshops and retreats, and provide personal and professional coaching.

I believe that we each have both the ability and the responsibility to make a positive difference and to leave the world better than we found it. I also believe in embracing the life we’ve been given and making the most of every moment that we have.

I’m passionate about helping women, and leaders, discover their untapped potential and fulfill their dreams—on their own terms. My greatest joy comes from working with people, especially women, who are seeking “more” in the second half of their lives. These are the wise women ready to create their most inspiring and purposeful future.

When I’m not working (which I finally learned to make time for in my life), you’ll probably find me hiking, traveling, learning something new, or indulging in a great meal out (because cooking is optional in my world). Life is an adventure, and I’m here for every step of it!

My Professional Background

Have you ever had an epiphany? One of those moments when clarity strikes, and you know, deep in your soul, that change is calling? I’ve had two of those life-altering moments that have helped shape my professional life.

The first came when I was 22 years old and just two days into law school. It hit me: I wasn’t meant to be there. Dropping out seemed crazy to everyone around me, but I trusted my intuition. Two years later, I found my true path, entering a doctoral program and earning my Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology.

For over 25 years, I thrived in higher education as a professor and administrator in Southern California. I taught courses like Women’s Mental Health, and I served in several leadership roles, including Department Chair, Associate Dean, and Dean. I loved it!

Then, I had my second epiphany. Like so many women, I was seeking more—something different. I wanted more time for my personal life, and I also wanted to focus on working with women and leaders who were seeking more as well. I wanted to use my expertise and experience to help others create the lives and careers they want. It was time for me to make a change. So, I did!

Leaving the security of my academic career was scary, but it was also exhilarating. I started a new business and co-authored a book with Dr. Jessie Jones. I provide individual and group coaching, deliver presentations, and lead workshops and retreats. I am also co-authoring a new book, The 4G Mindset for Leaders. Today, I help people navigate life’s transitions and unlock their best lives—both personally and professionally.
